Swimming is an essential life skill and one day it may save their life or someone elses! It is a necessity but also can be such an enjoyable and
rewarding sport.
At Starfish we start children early in very small classes, between the ages of 2.5 years and 4yrs they will be ready to join out Tiny Tadpole classes
(depending on confidence and whether they have started in our baby classes). Our early Tadpole classes are full of games and simple exercises while we build their water confidence. As they progress
we develop their kicking, floating, streamlining, timing, submerging and breathing skills until they take off and begin to swim unaided. The first couple of metres a child swims is a truly magical
moment that Parents and Teachers will cherish.
Once children are swimming we break down the stroke and concentrate on technique. Its important to us that children learn and understand how to swim
correctly and conquer every stroke.
We keep records of skills achieved for every child and award a skill certificate every term. We also give all children the opportunity to attempt a distance
swim every term - from their first 3 metres to 3000 metres achievements.
As children progress and become competent swimmers we introduce survival and lifesaving skills - developing their knowledge and enhancing their swimming
ability.
